Instruction #2: Getting it to spin

There are various ways to start the diabolo spinning, but the easiest way is to start by rolling it on the ground, so that it gains momentum in the direction we want it to spin (see video 1). This is the method usually used by diabolists at all skill levels.

Right handers- the diabolo always rolls from your right side to your left

Lefties- you probably can guess if you read above

Before the diabolo rolls to the point where the string stops it, simply lift up your right hand (if you’re right handed) along with the diabolo and continue the spin by pulling up on the right handstick in little jerks, lifting with your arm. The left stick is held tight.

Suggestions:

• Don’t use your wrists to make it roll. Move both your arms together in the same plane as the diabolo wants to roll
• Keep the tips of the sticks close together when you roll it
• To get your feet moving, take a step in the direction of the roll, or if you keep forgetting to move your feet, walk with it as you roll it.
